SafeSchool 4.0: the structural energy vulnerability of school buildings

SafeSchool 4.0 is the ENEA application capable of measuring the structural energy vulnerability of school buildings. The application - made by the Agency for Energy Efficiency and Earthquake Laboratory for Engineering and Prevention of Natural Hazards and conducted as part of the National Campaign for Class A Energy Efficiency in Italy - is a technical tool available to the industry and has a dual purpose: to guide users in energy relief and structural construction by analyzing critical issues. The application will carry out the comparison between the actual consumption of the building and the reference energy consumption of school buildings, giving the building a class of merit, both for consumption for heating and for both electricity (by classifying the school such as good / fair / bad).

• General data, such as the location of the institute, the type of construction, the maintenance status of the facilities;

• structural investigation to define the main characteristics of the building and the area where it is located;

• Energy research to define the main energy characteristics of the building, facilities and services.

Within these sections, there are all the various aspects to be detected, grouped in graphical form through icons and type of data to be entered. then filling in the necessary input data for the various application sections, which are obtained as a final result:

• The report of the research carried out in editable format (complete with photos and references to project documents analyzed during the inspections);

• the energy quality grade level (for heating and electricity) and the list of actions required to improve its performance;

• the level of intervention and the level of priority, highlighting critical situations from a structural point of view and allowing a first assessment of intervention priorities;

• a file in XML format contains all the information entered by the technician, which will be used by ENEA to create a platform for strategic planning to implement security measures and improve energy efficiency for schools and help identify areas with increased need for interventions.

The report reproduces the data-filled charts entered by the diagnostic manager and contains structural information that energizes the entire building, and identifies all actions needed to improve school buildings.

SafeSchool 4.0, in a sustainable way, will not only indicate the possible and sustainable technological retrofit solutions in existing buildings in accordance with regulations, but it will provide, in a single project for the existing restoration, even tips on how to define the next structural design; This, obviously, according to different territorial hazard, environment and climate.
